Elegy by AMICI Dance Theatre Company was a thought-provoking and beautiful full company production, which fused music, dance and text. Set in contemporary Britain it tells six heart-rending, personal stories of mothers who have lost their children in tragic circumstances. At the inquest into their children’s deaths, they ask, could they have been prevented?
The mother’s personal stories reflect contemporary issues of drug abuse, illegal immigrant exploitation, honour killings, prostitution, racist killings and homelessness.
AMICI’s Artistic Director Wolfgang Stange collaborated with Director Michael Vale, Julian Crouch of Improbable and award winning playwright Julia Pascal to create striking images and stories that linger in the mind.

"Every time I go to see performances by Amici I am moved almost to tears by the work of Wolfgang Stange and his associates in creating dance-theatre of, about (and from) men and women, young and old, many with disabilities. There's no appealing for sympathy nor any trace of that "isn't it marvellous what he makes them do" syndrome. Stange's performers work with a heart-whole involvement which gives his productions a true theatrical force. The theme of Elegy, the company's new staging, concerns "mothers who have lost their children in tragic circumstances." Clement Crisp - Financial Times
